Meisha Carbon-Neutral Community

To build carbon-neutral communities, the transformation goes beyond physical upgrades and also includes “software updates”, i.e., a shift in awareness and lifestyles. At Vanke Foundation, we have engaged with local communities through measures such as citizen science and community participation to foster carbon awareness. In schools, our Low-carbon Campus program has recruited young volunteers passionate about waste sorting; at the community, we invited cultural anthropologists to conduct fieldwork and present Meisha’s social and cultural charms in an ethnographic fashion. We have also explored local stories and organized themed events to showcase the culinary wisdom and neighborhood bond of Meisha, while promoting green, low-carbon, and healthy lifestyles. Our co-built community gardens have provided a habitat for wildlife, as well as an engaging public space for ecological education. Programs like the Nature Observation Challenge and Water Monster organized in forests and wetlands encourage residents to feel the biodiversity around them, eliminate invasive species, and become collaborative stewards of the beautiful Meisha. Moving forward, Vanke Foundation will call for low-carbon actions in more scenarios, such as zero-waste hotels and zero-waste offices, to create a low-carbon atmosphere for the Meisha Carbon-Neutral Community.

Building a Sustainable Future through Nature Education

Children are the future of sustainable growth. Vanke Foundation offers a community education center for teenagers and nearby residents through the Meisha Vanke Center’s carbon neutrality community and the surrounding areas. We plan to provide a gateway to nature education through themed events such as The Carbon Quest of Black Soldier Flies focusing on food waste processing, The Energy Cycle Battle centered around the recycling of green waste resources, and The Mystery of Dameisha highlighting the circulation of organic materials. At Vanke Foundation, we have started a journey into nature.

Over three years, Vanke Foundation and its partners have been sketching and refining a roadmap for Meisha Carbon-Neutral Community...
