Webinar: Black soldier fly potential and carbon financing
source:
Vanke Foundation is hosting Webinar: Black soldier fly potential and carbon financing. Attend it on April 8. Speakers are from Verra, Inspro Science Limited, Protix, Macao Carbon Exchange and Vanke Foundation.
Organic waste is responsible for roughly 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, whereas the Black Soldier Fly has the potential to reduce up to gigatons of CO? ? emissions annually by 2050. Furthermore, these benefits not only help mitigate climate change but also enhance the overall fertility of soil and sustainability of animal feed supply chain.
The VCS, hosted by Verra, is the world’s most widely used greenhouse gas (GHG) crediting standard and is endorsed by the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM).
To develop a comprehensive methodology for calculating carbon reduction potential of black soldier fly under VCS, Vanke Foundation has undergone several years of rigorous, independent assessment. The Alternative waste treatment processes methodology (ACM0022) will bring in clarifications of multiple GHG emission reductions. ACM0022 methodology supports and incentivises black soldier fly solution providers to register projects and issue carbon credits under VCS. Carbon credits can be additional financial support for the black soldier fly industry.
