In the 2018-2022 five-year strategic plan, Vanke Foundation has set "Sustainable Community" as its goal and "Community Waste Management" as its flagship project. It has established a work approach of "Research - Pilot - Empowerment - Advocacy" and elaborately explored effective paths for garbage classification management in many scenarios.
Over the past five years, Vanke Foundation has collaborated with various forces to actively promote waste management pilot practices in multiple scenarios such as urban communities, offices, schools, and museums. It has promoted the research and application of organic waste recycling technologies such as community compost and Hermetia illucens. Through industry partner empowerment, expert network construction, public advocacy, and relevant policy research and promotion, it has explored the community household waste management model that can be replicated and promoted on a large scale under various scenarios to actively improve the urban and rural living environment. Over the past five years, the projects supported by the Foundation have been expanded to over 27,000 communities in 32 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the central government, and spread to over 7.2 billion people the concepts such as waste reduction and sorting, zero-waste.
For the next five-year plan, the Foundation will continue to improve the long-term household waste management mechanism, and focus on exploring garbage classification models in three key scenarios: urban communities, offices, and schools. It will promote policy advocacy based on community pilot classification models, build an education base for treating kitchen waste with Hermetia illucens and deepen community composting research advocacy with nature-based household waste solutions, and further assist in breaking through the bottleneck of community waste management.
